Where Are The Best Places To Visit In The Spring?

Now that March is here, many Canadians are excitedly looking forward to the impending start of spring. This year, winter officially comes to an end on Thursday, March 19th. That’s only a little over two weeks away!

With the hope of warmer weather soon arriving, people all throughout Canada are eager to put away their boots, toques and coats. However, there are still those who view the springtime as an opportune time to travel and experience beautiful, warm weather at its finest. So where are the best places to visit in the spring?

Galápagos Islands, Ecuador.

The Galápagos Islands are an archipelago of volcanic islands that are distributed on both sides of the equator in the Pacific Ocean. They surround the centre of the Western Hemisphere 906 kilometres west of continental Ecuador. This part of the year is right in the middle of their warm season, which lasts from December to May. As the Condé Nast Traveler tells us, the Galápagos Islands lets you enjoy tropical weather in March.

“Twenty percent of the marine life here is found nowhere else in the world: head to Camaño Islet, Santa Cruz Island for the chance to see marine iguanas hunting for food under water, or El Arco, Darwin Island, which is renowned for shark-spotting,” their website explains, “On land, it’s turtle-hatching season, and by the end of March, you should also witness the return of the islands’ famed waved albatross…which fly back from Peru.”

Geneva, Switzerland.

Popularized by the Geneva Conventions, this Swiss city is much-beloved for its beautiful flower fields, lush vineyards and bicycle paths. According to Breanna Wilson on Forbes.com, with some fields stretching for acres, Geneva offers one of the most dramatic scenes that Mother Nature puts on each spring season. You can also take chocolate-making and fondue cooking classes in many locations throughout the city!

Wilson also offers the following travelling tip: “The city of Geneva is actually really easy to reach when visiting other major European cities. It’s only a four-hour train ride to either Paris, France or Milan, Italy, and smaller towns such as Annecy and Gruyères can be reached in only two hours. To get the most out of a visit to Geneva I’d highly suggest booking a Eurail train pass allowing you to travel between cities or countries in just mere hours.”

Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The capital of Argentina, Buenos Aires is located on the western shore of the estuary of the Río de la Plata, on South America’s southeastern coast. Translated to “fair winds” or “good airs”, Buenos Aires boasts very hot summers. But, for those who aren’t fans of high heat, April is the perfect month to visit this wonderful city. Our spring is their fall!

In April, the foliage gently turns and daytime temperatures are warm and manageable. The evenings are known to be cool. As well, there is plenty to enjoy all April long. “The city’s annual answer to Tribeca Film Festival, BAFICI, turns the city into a hub of Spanish language indie cinema from April 11-22, while Nuestros Caballos (April 4-8) offers the chance to experience Argentina’s horse-made culture first-hand,” the Condé Nast Traveler explains.
