With the travel industry currently at a standstill, the Taitam Technology Vacations team is choosing to look at the brighter side of things. Needless to say, we join the world in battling the coronavirus pandemic and feel horribly for all those who have been directly affected. As well, we offer our sincere best wishes to everyone in their fight to stop the spread of COVID-19. However, we’d like to take the opportunity to remind you of happier times.
For the time being, The Taitam Traveller will be dedicated to fun and sometimes humorous real-life vacation stories. We’d like to reiterate that there will again come a time when we will all be free to travel the world safely. And when that time comes, we will be right here offering our assistance to all Taitam members. In the meantime, we have a question for you.
Cristina Beitz of El Cajon, California has an answer to that. The Budget Travel representative shared the story about her awkward honeymoon experience with Reader’s Digest. In her story, she reveals that her in-laws offered to pay for her honeymoon shortly after getting married to her husband. The newly-married couple had Hawaii or Mexico in mind. But, instead, the in-laws chose Disney World.
That’s not the bad part. The problem was that the in-laws planned on coming along! “Turns out, my mother-in-law’s two best friends also always wanted to go to Disney World, as did their three kids, not to mention my sister-in-law and her husband,” recalls Cristina, “I can’t say a lot of honeymooning went on.”
Orangeburg, South Carolina’s Vestina Forkel and her husband planned a city bus tour to Athens, Greece a few years ago. As she reveals on RealSimple.com, the two seniors had the intention of enjoying the storied city and got themselves ready to hop on the tour bus that arrived at their hotel at 7 a.m. one morning. When they got on the bus, however, they immediately noticed their guide only spoke Portuguese. That was the first red flag, Vestina recalls.
“Second red flag?” she continues, “The bus stopped at a port, and everyone was herded onto a boat. It turns out that we, two 69-year-olds, had boarded a 12-hour party-boat tour of the Aegean Islands with a Brazilian tour group! We had no IDs and very little money, so we decided to stay put (instead of getting off at one of the island stops), drink a few beers, and get some sun. Lesson learned: Speak up at the first red flag.”
Although you won’t be making your travel plans any time soon, our team is committed to making your future vacations error-free. Until then, if you have any interesting or funny stories about past trips you’d like to share with us, we’d be happy to hear them. As well, if there’s anything our team can help you with as we all contend with the coronavirus pandemic, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
